Where it all started
Back in 2010, we were building a web application hosted in the cloud. We needed to receive email — but we had no root access to the server. Setting up a full mail server just to handle incoming email seemed absurd for a web app.
We looked at polling an existing mailbox, but it was slow, fragile, and wouldn't scale. There had to be a better way.
Email as an HTTP POST
We built CloudMailin (Cloud·Mail·In) to convert incoming email into HTTP POSTs — webhooks your web application already knows how to handle. No mail server configuration, no polling, no protocol translation. Email arrives, your app gets an HTTP request.
It saves time and money, and scales with your application rather than against it. Since then, we've added outbound sending via API, SMTP relay, and a full suite of deliverability tools.
